Pro Football Hall of Famer Gary Zimmerman was arguably the greatest Broncos offensive lineman in team history. He was also very particular about his jersey!

In 1995, the Broncos wore Wilson brand jerseys. However, in 1996 the team switched to Nike. Seems simple enough, but Zim wasn’t having it. He liked the fit of his Wilson jersey and didn’t want to switch. Because the team was under contract to wear Nike jerseys, they couldn’t have their superstar left tackle take the field in a Wilson jersey….or could they?

As a testament to the ingenuity of the equipment folks, they were able to find a solution that was the best of both worlds. Zim’s Wilson jersey was disguised to look like a Nike jersey. To begin with, the W on the sleeves was removed and replaced with the Nike swoosh. The other modification was to sew a Nike tag over the top of the Wilson tag. In this photo you can see, from the back, the outline of the Wilson tag but from the front you only see the Nike tag.
